Originally from Maryland, Melissa found a new home in the South while studying Environmental Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. After receiving a Masters of Science in Public Health she spent a year farming, traveling and teaching English in France. Melissa then returned to North Carolina to teach hands-on food education in school gardens and classroom kitchens with FoodCorps. A permaculture design certification inspired her to seek additional training in horticulture and landscape design at NC State University. Today, Melissa spends her days engaging Durham Public School students in outdoor learning at the Hub Farm. She is passionate about connecting people to their environment to build healthier communities.
